History
The kelp forests in California are one of the most abundant ecosystems in the world. It harbors both living and non living organisms. IT is home to sea otters, granite rocks, plankton, and many other factors that exist here. Kelp forests are most present in Southern California but can be seen most places along the California coastline. It needs to exist in temperate to polar waters because of the kelp restrictions. When the water is too hot the kelp dies, which is why global warming is such an issue for kelp. There are many storms in California that can damage, destroy, or relocate these forests. However, storms aren't the only factor that can affect this ecosystem; El Nino years cause much stress on the kelp, making it harder for it to thrive. This habitat is very important to the world because people use kelp for many things including medication, food, and body care products. In the past, during World War 2, people used kelp to make gunpowder for the battles because kelp contains actin which is explosive when correctly administered. As humans we need to help these kelp forests before they all die because not only are they home to many animals, but we also need them to survive for us to get our food sources.
